aetna insurance informationAetna offers individual or employer-based health plans, as well as plans through Medicare and Medicaid. It’s estimated that 39 million Americans rely on Aetna, a CVS Health company, for their health insurance needs. Over 700,000 primary care doctors and specialists are included within Aetna’s network of 1.2 million health care providers, operating at over 5,700 facilities.

Aetna understands the need to proactively tackle substance abuse and offer treatment and has joined the fight against America’s opioid epidemic. The Aetna Foundation recently granted the Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association (FADAA) with $1 million and has provided similar funding in other states. Through Aetna’s Guardian Angel program, specially trained nurse practitioners act as case managers to get those who’ve experienced overdoses into treatment. At Boca Detox Center, we are proud to work with partners such as Aetna to ensure that everyone in our care is able to leverage their insurance plan most effectively.

Your plan may be an Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO), or a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plan which requires you to visit an in-network facility. You may have a Point of Service (POS) plan or a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan with access to out-of-network providers. Either way, we will work closely with you to ensure that any preauthorization or referral requirements are met.

The amount of your policy’s deductible and co-payments will also impact your coverage amounts. In general, plans with the lowest monthly payments have high deductibles and cover approximately 60% of medical costs. Plans with lower deductibles and up to 90% of medical cost coverage may have much higher monthly payments. Aetna’s benefits for detoxification services and withdrawal medications will vary depending on several factors. These factors include whether, or not, your plan is an individual plan or employer-based plan, your history of alcohol and drug abuse, your specific plan coverage, and your treatment needs, such as medications required and the length of your stay.

Fortunately, since the 2008 Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, health insurance plans offered through the Health Insurance Marketplace must offer protections and benefits to the insured for substance abuse treatment that equal those offered for general medical or surgical care. Limits to substance abuse treatment covered by this law include:

  • Financial Limits – deductibles and co-payments can be no more restrictive
  • Treatment Limits – number of days or visits covered must be the same
  • Care Management – preauthorization requirements can be no more restrictive

If yours is an employer-based plan, you may have substance abuse coverage through any of Aetna’s Behavioral Health programs included in your coverage. This coverage may significantly reduce your out-of-pocket costs, and even more so when you select a provider within Aetna’s network of care.
