When it comes to behavioral health coverage, Anthem is among the nation’s top family and individual providers. Anthem has long-since viewed mental and physical health as closely intertwined, and it is dedicated to helping individuals and families across the country receive the quality, integrated care they need and deserve. In fact, Anthem is the nation’s second-largest health plan-owned behavioral health company, currently serving more than 13.8 million members across the country. Anthem offers both Medicaid and Medicare, two US government programs designed to bring affordable and quality healthcare to members of different demographics. In most instances, Medicare will cover men and women who are over the age of 65, and Medicaid eligibility is based predominantly on income (and will be made accessible to individuals and families in lower income brackets). Anthem offers standard healthcare as well as dental insurance and vision insurance, and – as previously mentioned – puts a strong emphasis on the importance of accessible behavioral healthcare.

A top of mind concern for many people is cost, but it’s important to know that most health insurance companies offer some degree of coverage for addiction treatment services. Anthem serves more than 73 million Americans through its affiliated health plans. As one of the largest health companies in America, Anthem recognizes the major role it can play in ensuring as many people as possible have access to comprehensive health coverage – including coverage for substance abuse treatment services.

Medical Detoxification

Medically monitored detox is a necessary first step on every recovery journey. Many individuals who have been suffering at the hands of a substance abuse disorder mistakenly believe that they can withdraw on their own before entering into an inpatient rehab. While it is true that not all symptoms of drug withdrawal are life-threatening, complications that result from withdrawal symptoms are often extremely dangerous. At very least, the intense psychological cravings that coincide with drug withdrawal often lead an individual back to using before the detox process is complete. At Boca Detox we strongly encourage medical detox regardless of which substance was being abused, and regardless of the length of and severity of use. The good news is that private insurance companies – like Anthem – very often cover the entire stay in a medical detox center. The Affordable Care Act (ACT) was first developed in 2010 to ensure that insurance companies were considering behavioral and mental health an integral part of comprehensive well-being, and that they were consequently considering substance abuse treatment an essential healthcare benefit.

In many instances, the type of insurance you have will dictate which kind of substance abuse-related treatment services are available to you. In the case of Anthem, medical detox if typically covered. If you are unsure as to whether or not your current policy covers detox, simply give us a call and we will walk you through a simple, obligation-free insurance benefit check.

Inpatient Addiction Recovery

Once a client has been medically cleared and deemed physically fit to enter into the next appropriate level of clinical care, he or she will almost always transfer directly into an inpatient rehab program. Depending on the type of substance that was being abused and the severity and length of abuse, inpatient treatment will typically last for between one and three months. However, the length of a client’s stay may be extended to up to six months if deemed necessary. At Boca Detox we offer a highly comprehensive and individualized program of addiction recovery. We believe that because active addiction viciously attacks the mind, body and the spirit, recovery should focus on the restoration of physical, psychological and emotional well-being. Our inpatient recovery program begins with an in-depth assessment that is conducted upon admission. This will help our compassionate and dedicated team of qualified and experienced professionals determine which treatment modalities will be the most beneficial for each individual client. For example, if it is determined that a client has a history of mental illness, he or she will regularly meet with a psychiatrist in addition to a licensed addiction therapist. If it is determined that a client has a history of unresolved trauma, he or she will be placed with a therapist who has an extensive personal history in trauma-informed care.

When committing to inpatient treatment, there are numerous components to consider. One of the most important being how to effectively cover all treatment costs. At Boca Detox we accept most major insurance providers, including Anthem. One of our main priorities is ensuring that quality clinical care is available to all those who seek it.

Which Programs Does Anthem Cover?

At Boca Detox we offer our clients a comprehensive continuum of clinical care. Some of the programs we offer that can be covered by insurance policies like those offered by Anthem include:

  • Medically monitored detox, which typically lasts for between one and two weeks (and longer if deemed necessary by our team of experienced clinicians).
  • Clinical and medical assessments, which typically take place upon admission to medical detox or inpatient drug and alcohol rehab.
  • Addiction treatment services, such as those offered in inpatient or residential treatment (or in a lower level of clinical care, such as intensive outpatient or outpatient treatment).
  • Case management services.
  • Intensive therapeutic care, including individual therapy sessions, group therapy sessions and family therapy sessions whenever possible.
  • Comprehensive aftercare planning.

Getting Started on the Road to Recovery

At Boca Detox getting started on the road to recovery is simple, straightforward and stress-free. The sad truth is that many men and women who are in desperate need of clinical care fail to seek or receive the help they need, either because they believe that they cannot afford treatment or because they are unaware that so many cost-related resources are available to them. Some insurance companies will provide their clients with a list of “in-network” resources, ensuring that substance abuse treatment comes at a lower cost. Other insurance providers will ask individuals who are seeking inpatient treatment and medical detox services to cover a small co-pay, premium or deductible. If you are concerned about covering the cost of substance abuse treatment, we are available to help. Even if you are currently uninsured, our team of Financial Advisors will work with you to come up with a viable option.

We sincerely believe that quality clinical care should be available to all who seek it. We also believe in a multi-phased continuum of care; medical detox alone does not lend itself to a lifetime of fulfilled sobriety. Other recovery services are necessary. For this reason, the majority of our treatment services (if not all of our treatment services) are covered by most major national providers — including Anthem.
